Plymouth Schools Year 3/4 Cross Country Champion

Coby is the champ!!

Coby has taken part in 3 races this term.  The first one was at Eggbuckland, where he finished an excellent 2nd, only behing a year 3 from Bickleigh, and followed it up with 4th place at the event at Combe Dean School.  Unfortunately, he was in 3rd place during this race when they came out of the wood section (part of the course goes through the woods adjacent to the school) but then as he was coming down the hill and around a sharp corner, he slipped over and got overtaken.  He couldn’t quite get past the boy who had overtaken him so ended up 4th.  The poor boy was quite upset with this – I think mainly due to frustration at slipping over – but 4th was still very good.

And then we get to the Plymouth Finals at Staddiscombe on a course that must have been between 1.5 to 2 miles long…….

He hammered them!

Kelly and I were stood near the finish line along the homeward stretch and could see him at the very top of the field in 4th place when he suddenly put on a spurt of speed and overtook everyone coming back down the hill towards us.  He then bombed it around the final corner and stormed over the line and looked like he could have carried on further!  It was amazing to watch!  As you can imagine, we were both extremely excited and proud of him! The boy is 2nd place was a good 20 to 30 metres behind him as well so he had plenty of time to slow down if he wanted.

When he got back to his school camp, he got high fives and hugs from the other runners and also the teachers!

Well done Cobes, what an awesome run!
